NiCoCrAlX (X = Y, Hf and Si) Bond Coats by Cold Spray for High Temperature Applications

Abstract MCrAlX powder compositions (M = Ni,Co and X Y, Hf, Si or combination) are often thermally sprayed via vacuum plasma spray (VPS), low pressure (LPPS) high velocity oxy-fuel to produce temperature oxidation hot corrosion resistant bond coats for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs). Cold technology is currently considered as a promising alternative the traditional solutions, having advantage of delivering oxide-free very dense metallic at relatively lower costs compared VPS LPPS. NiCoCrAlY NiCoCrAlYHfSi were deposited using cold system influence feedstock properties on investigated. To improve coat deposition, laser assisted (LACS) was employed. The results show that LACS can be successfully used deposit this particular while eliminating nozzle erosion deposition efficiency disadvantages observed with conventional spray. identify optimal setup uniform coatings, different laser/spray jet configurations examined.
